We have not scientifically proved yet the differences between the two products in terms of clinical effects. The testimonials received for more than 15 years show no differences. Our research on the mechanisms of action of hazel wood jewelry shows that it is the amount of hazel wood in contact with the skin that matters.
Ideally, we suggest to wear the necklace and bracelet, so if one day you do not want to wear the necklace, you'll still benefit from the bracelet. In fact, some people choose to wear the bracelet rather than the necklace for aesthetic reasons or discretion.
If you choose to wear the bracelet only, you could wear the double bracelet which contains as much hazel wood as the necklace.
2. Does the size of the wood pieces make a difference?
Scientific research has been conducted by Pure Hazelwood to measure the influence of characteristics of the pieces of hazel wood on product quality. The company makes a selection of the pieces of hazel wood to ensure the best quality. A procedure is in place internally to manage the variability of our raw material and to control it. Pure Hazelwood optimizes its manufacturing procedures based on these research findings. This is our trade secret. Pure Hazelwood is the only company to have such scientific results on the Quebec hazel wood specie.
3. When should I replace my necklace / bracelet?
We are currently conducting research to ascertain the lifespan of hazel wood jewelry. For more than 15 years, our satisfied customers have testified that they replace their jewelry on average every 3 to 6 months.
This period seems to vary from one person to another.
4. Is it normal that my necklace or bracelet loses pieces of bark?
Since we use only 100% natural hazel wood (no varnish is applied), we cannot control all the mechanical properties of the wood and its responses to various external factors to which it is submitted (friction with clothes, bath etc…) Sometimes, the bark splits and partially falls. Users testify that the product still retains its properties.
5. When can my baby start wearing a hazel wood necklace?
It is at the discretion of the parent. Necklaces to relieve teething pain have been used in Native American traditions for a long time. So as soon as you feel that your baby would benefit from wearing the necklace, it will be possible to do so. You must ensure that the child cannot bring the necklace to his/her mouth by choosing an adequate size (refer to our size chart).
Warnings:
The parent must supervise children less than 3 years old wearing any necklaces. For maximum security, change the necklace every 3 months.
Do not allow children to handle or wear the necklace while in a crib, bed or cot.
6. Is the baby necklace safe?
The clasp used for baby necklaces has been carefully chosen for the safety of young children. The resistance of this clasp is weak while that of the wire is strong. So if tension is applied on the necklace (for example, if the necklace gets caught on a thread of the bed cover), the clasp will open but the thread will remain intact thus preventing the beads from falling off in the infant’s bed. In addition, we add two clamps at each end of the clasp to prevent beads or small parts from breaking free.
Pure Hazelwood conducted normative testing for "child safety" with an accredited laboratory on the necklaces and its components to ensure the absence of heavy metals and to validate the security system of their products.
* This security is valid only on necklaces changed every 3 months maximum.
Warnings
Parents must supervise children less than 3 years old wearing any necklaces. For maximum security, change the necklace every 3 months.
Do not allow children to handle or wear the necklace while in a crib, bed or cot.
After a while, contact with water, air and movement, will wear out the wire used to make the necklace which can weaken significantly. Remember to renew the necklace when it shows signs of excessive wear.
BEWARE OF HAZEL WOOD NECKLACES FOR BABIES AND CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OLD THAT DO NOT HAVE THIS CLASP (BEWARE OF IMITATIONS).
7. Can I wear the necklace/bracelet in the bath or shower?
Hazel wood is highly resistant to water (clear water). You can keep the jewelry in the shower; that prevents you from forgetting to put it back on afterwards. However, we strongly suggest removing your necklace or bracelet if you go in a pool or hot tub. Chemicals such as chlorine can damage the hazel wood.
8. Can I wear the necklace if I'm allergic to metal clasps used for jewelry?
Our screw clasps are made of brass and our lobster clasps are made of zinc, and both of them may contain nickel. If you know that you could react to these metals, you can put a few coats of clear nail polish on the clasp or cover it with a small piece of tape. You can also call us to have your necklace assembled on an elastic thread (a 2$ fee for special orders will apply).
All clasps are tested and certified free of lead and cadmium. May contain nickel.
9. What is the difference between the lotion and ointment?
The zinc ointment is a natural health product approved by Health Canada to treat diaper rash. The lotion is a cosmetic product to moisturize dry skin.
The lotion is non-greasy and lightly scented (Paraben). Our clients use it to improve the overall appearance of their skin (dry skin) and as it penetrates quickly, you can use it at any time.
The zinc ointment is thicker when applied. It is dermatologically tested, fragrance free and dye free and can also be used on sensitive skin.
10. What are hazel wood necklaces & bracelets used for?
Hazelwood jewelry is an unconventional and very original product. We have been conducting research for the last 4 years and more to understand the properties of the Quebec hazel wood. This wood has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties for centuries, by indigenous people.
To date, our research shows that hazel wood is rich in active compounds which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
For over 15 years, our customers’ testimonials show that wearing Pure Hazelwood necklaces/bracelets in contact with the skin can relieve some discomforts that may be related to inflammation due to skin problems, digestive disorders, joint pains and teething pain.
